The State of Marriage (finally something positive)
There is an interesting article here in the New York Times about marriage and gender relations. It's nice to see something that doesn't try to frighten or guilt-trip women, and the situation being discussed seems a change, but not a bad one.
Personally I'd have skipped the engagement ring--I had a satisfying discussion with Alice last weekend about how the engagement ring tradition plays into all kinds of ugly stereotypes that I would rather see fade into well deserved obscurity. But, you know, this is uncharted territory and people are fanning out and finding their own paths that will differ from the traditional path, but also from mine, and that's okay.
