The through-holes sound like a good idea - wish I'd used them. The Shark decks are what would be the trampoline on a Hobie cat; they are originally 1/4 inch plywood, but as I am a hefty guy, the new ones are 3/8, glassed on both sides mostly for waterproofing. I don't want them rotting like the originals did. You can see what a Shark looks like at www.sharkcatamaranclass.org. I've been restoring mine for four years and have yet to get it in the water. (Yeah, seems overlong to me, too - life keeps getting in my way; now that I'm officially retired, I hope to do better.) I found a slide of my first canoe; I will post the picture for you when I get it scanned. Not able to come up with any photos of number two, though, which is unfortunate. It was a nicer boat, and my own design. Number one was built from plans.
