Merry Christmas!
Dec. 25th, 2003 09:14 amGuess what? I got one of the iRiver mp3 recorders for Christmas :-). I did a review of the iFP390T a while back, and I guess I'll be reviewing this one (the iHP120) too. I have already established that, unlike the previous recorder, which turned out to have a bad USB port, I *can* connect this one to my Mac. Considering that the hard drive in it is twice the size of the hard drive in my notebook, I could theoretically back up my notebook's hard drive in its entirety on it, and still have lots of space for mp3s. This tickles me.
Kip and I also got a couple of badly needed floor lamps; the living room has *no* built-in lights at all--we've been getting by on the windows in the daytime and whatever spills in from the dining room at night. Kip was very pleased about the Chaucer books he got (he's a Chaucer scholar, so his wishlist was very detailed, right down to the ISBNs--the "serial numbers" of particular editions of books). He also got the DVD for Spirited Away, which I'll probably enjoy as much as he does :-)
It was odd to have Christmas morning without Mom bringing in fresh bread and singing that special Dutch song she sings. I feel sad that I don't know it--I know the tune, but Dutch is just so much fa la la to me; I know about three words. Maybe I can get Mom to record it for me the next time I'm home :-) I don't know whether to try to transplant all my old family's customs into my new family, or whether to abandon them and create something entirely new or what. I imagine it will settle out over the next few years.
