Interesting article
Jan. 3rd, 2007 03:46 pmApparently the Democratic Congress is making its first stabs at ethics reform, as set out in this article Good luck to them.
What I found most interesting, though, is that the Democrats are setting up rules to restrict the majority--them, at the moment, for people who haven't been following the news--from holding a vote open for hours while persuading people to change their votes, as happened with the disgraceful Republican Medicare drug benefit debacle. Good for them, and let the Republicans take note.
In addition,
Sounds like good practices to eliminate.
In the meantime, guess what the Republicans want? Pelosi's Minority Bill of Rights that they laughed at before suddenly sounds right and fair to them. Guess the grinding heel feels a little different when it's landing on their toes.
Unlike excluding, say, Democrats from the legislative process, Mr. McHenry?
*Republican senator of North Carolina.

In addition,
Democrats also will eliminate the practices of changing conference reports after members have signed them and excluding elected members from conference committees.

McHenry* expressed concern that excluding Republicans from the legislative process would set a bad precedent.
