And it was good, I thought.

For those of you who haven't heard of it (I wouldn't have, if a friend hadn't called me on the phone and said to go see it), the thumbnail sketch is that a young man (Tristan) sitting with the young woman (Victoria) he has been courting without success sees a falling star, and vows to fetch it back to her to prove his love. Victoria takes him up on it, and he sets out.

Fetching the fallen star requires Tristan cross the wall between the land of reason and the the land of magic. But the star is not what you might think, and it fell for reasons that are not what you might imagine, and other people and powers are seeking it, all of them born beyond the wall, with wiles and ways that Tristan wots not.

I had fun watching it--it filled up my eyes with costumes and coursers, gallantry and galleons, marvelous magics and treacherous princes, a princess in peril and a gallery of ghosts. The mimmoths were quite excited about a cameo appearance by a mimmoth early in the movie. They wouldn't shut up about it all the way home.

It was a good movie and I'm glad I went. You might want to check out the reviews, and think about going.
