I've been away from my computer for a while. My pants are bankrupt for last week, for what that's worth. I got home Monday night of this week, but spent Tuesday recovering and Wednesday trying to get caught up on all the stuff I didn't do last week because I was gone.

I had a great time at GaFilk--as expected. This time I made all my recordings with the Zoom perching on the back of a chair instead of on the floor by my feet. I'll be interested to see if this makes a difference in the sound quality. So far I haven't had time to do anything with the recordings except dump them to a CD in their unedited form. I notice that editing a recording (even in minor ways, like cutting extra material from the start and the end and setting the volume down on high-amplitude interruptions like someone kicking a chair) takes 2-3X as song as making the original recording. I have literally hours of recordings to go over, (plus I have recordings from previous cons that I never got to.) At some point I really need to start going over my hoard.

I'm sure everybody knows by now that the House Band, Play it with Moxie, kept everybody (including me) dancing until they ran completely out of repertoire. It was like being in one of those fairy tales where you have to dance as long as the magic music keeps playing--only fun and not scary. Once I finished dinner, I danced every dance. I didn't bring any fancy dinner clothes this time, partly due to lack of room in my luggage once I'd packed all the music stuff. But maybe I should think about bringing something fun to dance in for next year.

I seriously enjoyed Tom Smith's concert, as usual. I bought a CD (only one because I don't have much discretionary cash right now). I got a chance to listen to a bunch of his CDs on the drive back, though. I need to get hold of more of his music.

I spent the following week in Long Island, helping with the continuing clean-out-the-house saga. We made some progress, though not as much as I would have liked. This project is going to take a long time, and I will not be able to be present for much of it. For example, we took seven carloads of stuff to the recycling point--and I would guess that we dealt with less than 10% of the problem. Sigh.
