Finished Canoe Lifter (only a week late)
Dec. 18th, 2009 05:37 pmI have finished my canoe lifter. I think. Provided it stands up okay to use--if not I may have to modify it a little. I will try to get a picture.
Canoe Lifter: the cross-bars fit into the notches so the strongback can be held at three different heights. The castors retract into the torsion boxes at the ends, so that the canoe-lifter doesn't skitter around if I have to wrench on something. To extend the castors, I take the weight off the canoe lifter with my extendable sawhorses, then lift the torsion box. In the correctly made end, the 2 x 4 with the castors on it just flops down on its hinges, and then I brace it with the two 1 x 1.5s that look like handles sticking up from the sides. In the first end I made I tightened down on the hinges too much and they don't flop freely, so I have to poke the 2 x 4 down with a spare stick.

In completely other news I was gratified to hear on NPR that Sarah Palin's contention about "Death Panels" won "Lie of the Year" at the Politifact.com website. Runner up was Glen Beck claiming Obama's science advisor advocated forced abortion and putting sterilants in the drinking water.
Reality is well known for its liberal bias.
