Oct. 28th, 2010 02:12 pmWhen I tried to pick up the seat this morning, the second coat of varnish was still sticky in places. I suppose this means that I put it on too thick, as it should have dried and then some overnight.
Since I couldn't work on the seat, I put the first coat of varnish on the outside of the hull. This is much easier now than it was August before last--at least the varnish stays wet long enough for the brush marks to fade. I tried to put it on as thin as it would go and actually cover the hull; we'll see how it comes out. I used a brush about 4 inches wide, which is bigger than I've used in the past.
If it dries as fast as it says on the can (which varnish over epoxy sometimes doesn't) I should be able to put on a second coat this evening. And probably tomorrow I'll be able to cane the seat.
