Developments
Feb. 28th, 2012 09:25 pmRecorded last Friday morning so as not to run out of material. Things seemed to go okay but of course I will find out during mixing whether they actually did.
I spent the weekend with Beth and Marie in Atlanta, helping put up Marie's greenhouse, and got to go to Myra's birthday housefilk, which was lovely fun. And on the way home I got an idea for a song which might work or might be too harsh, I will have to see.
I have been making good progress so far this week; I have finished the first pass on mixing Last Spaceship and have mixed the Ballad of Hal (not going to be on the album, but an Eve Online commission, which I suppose might lure a few people toward the album when the time comes.)
I checked levels in the car, and Last Spaceship is okay, I think, but the Ballad of Hal needs a little more octave mandolin and a little less iPod occarina. I will tweak it tomorrow.
I don't need to drive all that often or all that far right now, and it seems wasteful to drive for no physical reason. However the engine noise and road noise is great for checking levels; anything that disappears when I get in the car is too soft. Maybe if I just record some car noise I can get the same effect in Reaper without having to burn gas.
