Marcon

Oh, I had such a wonderful time!

Alice (of Alice Day) came up to my house from Atlanta and stayed in our Guest Room, and then Friday morning we set out for MarCon.

Somehow I always think it should be six hours to Columbus, and it always ends up being more like eight and by now you'd think I would know that.  But we had a good time talking and listening to her collection of filk CDs.

The concerts were great (alas, I had to leave early enough Sunday that I missed the Sunday concerts) and we had an interesting panel on Future of Filk, which culminated with Mark Bernstein and me agreeing to anchor a "new voices" circle especially for people new to performing in filk (whether longtime filkers previously silent or longtime performers encountering filk) at OVFF (I think.  I'll have to check.)

The circles were great. Tom Smith's friends from the Funny Music Project were indeed very funny, and I got to hear filk rap, which was kind of cool.

Also I took the new iPod (from Christmas) to the con and discovered that it takes pretty darned good videos as far as I can tell.  I got a couple of videos of Judi signing Erica's concert, and if all involved agree, I may put them up on youtube.

In other news, I announced the upcoming album at my concert and at the song circle.  People seemed interested.  And Bill Roper kindly agreed to be ears for my final mixes/masters.   My filk purchase was "Steel Cage Match" by Brooke and John, which I had heard good things about.  Bill showed me a new tuner called "snark" that is apparently all the rage. If I'm remembering the price correctly I might be able to afford to have a tuner in each instrument case and never be caught without one again.

Also, I am thinking about going back to performing in costume; I bought a great hat.  I am thinking about what other pieces are necessary to live up to The Hat.  I also saw a Most Excellent Fox costume in the hall, whose creator kindly gave me permission to take pictures.

Alice and I talked about costuming and the album and so much of the way home, and I got to listen to Sooj's album Mischeif while she was napping.  It is a fine album.

The mimmoths were taken by surprise by the speed of our departure on Friday and did not manage to stow away.  This is the first con in I don't know how long that I actually attended mimmothless.  Which may have been just as well, because I didn't have a mimmoth wrangler and was short on time to mind them myself.  The mimmoths made it up to themselves by appropriating The Hat when I got home.  When last seen, they were arguing about whether or not it was waterproof, or could be made waterproof.  I don't want to know what they are up to, but if they damage The Hat, there will be Trouble.
