Passing Thought
Jul. 2nd, 2012 07:58 amWomen are slightly over half the population.*
That means whatever it is we are (or more accurately, whatever constellation of things we are, because women are not stamped from a single mold) is normal, by definition.
If someone contends that men differ systematically from women in some way--women are normal. So if anything is abnormal, well, it's not us.
Just sayin'
Now personally I'm willing to say you don't have to be average to be normal. But average is--has to be--part of "normal," however widely you want to spread that net.
---------------------------------------
*(At least in the US; in countries where female fetuses are aborted at higher rates or countries where female infants die (for whatever reason) at higher rates this may not be the case.) But I live in the US and deal mostly with US society so it naturally gets most of my attention.
