Picked up my mandolin and ended up losing myself in practice for about an hour without really having planned to.  Pick direction is very important for fast passages, and sometimes what my fingers are playing turns out to be not what my mind expected.  But I think I've got that bit straightened out. And I went on to work on a few other things and looked up and it was dark outside.

I really think the practice is making me better--at least at home.  I'm not so sure about whether it's making my performances better; I never ever perform as well as I practice.  But logically it should be, on average and in the long run.

I spent the morning at the Rural Clinic--other people took my shifts last month as I had family over and was preparing for ConFluence so I kind of figured it was my job to help take up the slack this month so I'll be working four days total.  I actually got one woman (who spoke English much better than I speak Russian, but still hesitatingly enough that I thought calling around to other places might be difficult for her) an appointment over at the Health Department, where they can refer her for a free mammogram if necessary.  I'm very pleased about that.  I had to tell a lot of people no, but I could tell her yes, and that made my morning.
