Dec. 2nd, 2012

We are coming up on a time full of holidays.  St. Nicholas's Day, Hannukah, Kwanzaa, Solstice (worth acknowledging as a happy day simply because the days start getting longer--for those of us in the northern hemisphere, anyway) Christmas, and New Year's Day.  And also my birthday, which is tomorrow.  I will be a perfect square--indeed, a perfect square of a lucky number.  Since I have (a bit of) a gig tomorrow I'm hoping some of that luck will attend me then.

Pickledginger had a wonderful idea a few days ago, when I was talking about not daring to bring my CD to the gig (there is a song on there called Atheist's Anthem and I like all my windows un-shattered, and this is the Bible Belt.)  She said "can you make a small run of home-mades?"

And the more I thought about it the better an idea it seemed.  There is preperf cardstock for traycards and inserts, so I could print those up reasonably nicely (not as good as Randwolf's work but okay.)  And then it turned out Office Max was having a sale on a kind of printer that can print on CDs.  I had been thinking of getting something like this in the long term because I was afraid nobody would fork over money for a CD whose tracklist was written in sharpie, no matter how good the rest of it was.  But being able to get it in time for the gig (and at 40% off) was a happy surprise.  And it prints to CDs and they look very nice.  I'm letting them dry overnight so they will be less likely to smudge.

I have spent pretty much the entire day getting the printer set up and twelve CDs burned and printed and their inserts printed--and there's a trick to getting jewel cases open to get the inserts in, and I learned it about seven jewel cases in--but I have pretty nice abridged (censored is such an ugly word--accurate, but ugly) versions of The King's Lute to sell at my gig if anyone expresses interest.  I am happy.

So Happy Holidays, everyone!  There are many December days to enjoy and may they all shower warmth and good fortune on all of us.
