So I went and saw Frozen yesterday morning.
First off, this was my first experience with closed captioning in its new incarnation (Dad is deaf enough that we now seek out CC movies to watch together.) I thought I was going to be seeing the subtitles streaming across the bottom of the screen, but no, now they issue a little "electronic ticker tape" kind of device with a little viewscreen attached to a stalk, with a lump on the other end that fits into the cupholder of the movie theater seat. You press a button and the viewscreen connects wirelessly to some kind of server, and then displays the subtitles in little green lights (thank goodness it wasn't little red lights; that would have been a real fail.) Dad said it was working well, and once or twice I glanced over during the songs myself to see what they were singing. Dad said he only needed it for the songs; the dialog was quite clear.
Second off, I really loved this movie. Parts of it were predicitable Disney fare but parts of it really weren't--and some of it was a deliberate send-up of previous Disney fare, which I really enjoyed. There was one implausible character that showed up in the middle and I had a moment's worry that this character was going to ruin the movie, but it really didn't--it was intended for light comic relief and in my opinion mostly worked, and sometimes worked very well.
I will say that running out into the snow in a ballgown is a much worse idea than this movie would lead you to think, though, and in my opinion dresses--even warm dresses--and snow do not mix as well as depicted. That said, the dresses *were* very pretty.
I request people avoid spoilers in the comments here. If people want to discuss plot twists and such in detail, mention it in the comments and I will make a new entry with more detailed observations behind a cut, and people who still want to see the movie unspoiled can just avoid looking at the comments there, okay?
