So, just before I went to visit family for Christmas, I got a haircut at the local barbershop, because I'd been looking for a new place to get my hair cut after the old place closed and Kip had asked at the barbershop and the barber said sure he'd cut my hair.

And while he seemed a little taken aback when I actually showed up and asked for a cut, he was willing enough, and he got to chatting as he was doing the job and I happened to mention that I was finishing a CD and he asked what I played and so on, and then he told me that several local musicians had a habit of meeting at the barbershop on Friday mornings, and he invited me to come.

So the first Friday morning I was back I showed up with my mandolin, but none of the other musicians came.  Bill asked me to play a little bit while he was cutting someone's hair, so I did, and eventually another musician, Ed, showed up but he couldn't stay more than a few minutes so after about half an hour I went home.  Then I missed a Friday because of GaFilk, but today I went back again.

Ed showed up with a banjo and a fellow named Bill showed up with a second banjo and we played a bunch of stuff, kind of taking turns with one person leading and the other(s) playing along.  Chords to bluegrass tunes are pretty easy.  Ed gave me the chords to Rocky Top, and there were a couple of others that were almost all G, with just the occasional C or D thrown in.  Maybe I can figure out how to play chop before I go back in a couple of weeks.

I had a lot of fun and am looking forward to doing it again.
