Jan. 22nd, 2004 06:06 amI've been too busy to post much--actually had Tuesday off because the diffractometer isn't working but filled the day up with other errands and chores.
I found crystals, too! Monday I checked through the crystal screens Tomoaki and I set up New Year's Eve and found two conditions that gave crystals. One is sprinkled through with little hexagonal plates; they catch the light like tiny sequins. The other one has some spiky intergrown crystals--but those might be phosphate crystals because the medium contains phosphate and a tiny bit of magnesium.
Went to work yesterday only to discover that the diffractometer wasn't fixed yet after all. Spent the day basically doing stuff that any undergraduate could do--necessary lab maintenance, but not the best use of my time. Today I'll be gearing up for a big protein prep and crystallization screen tomorrow. This time I won't be working 14 hours, though--We're going to stagger things so Tomoaki starts the prep at 6:00am and I come in to take over at noon.
My back is still bad, but it isn't bothering me as much now that I have all these drugs to cover it up with :-7. I've been doing my (abbreviated) back exercises every morning and taking a (brief) walk every morning and in general trying to take good care of it.
I got the mp3s from GaFilk (science fiction music convention) all labeled to the best of my ability, recorded them to CDs (8 CDs!) and sent them off to Donald, my friend who's serving in Iraq right now. He was bummed about not being able to come to GaFilk, so I thought I could send GaFilk to him. They won't be great quality--but it's remarkable how listening to them brings the con back to me. I hope they get there before he moves again.
