Still alive; very busy

Braider nudged me yesterday (I think it was yesterday) and I thought maybe I'd better let people know I'm still alive. Just busy.

We got the grant off safely and on time (I hope--the boss swears it just had to be postmarked June 1). Despite starting early there was still much tearing around and adding of data at the last minute. But it's done.

3/4 of the lab (but not me) went to the synchrotron again, with the attendant tearing around trying to produce and freeze protein crystals. SeMet protein is suddenly not working for reasons unknown. Don't want to talk about it.

Physical therapy took a couple-three weeks to start working but then made a wonderful difference. Not all the way better yet, (and back hurts this morning) but have made much progress.

Must run. Got to innoculate SeMet broth with bugs this morning; can't be late.

P.S. Red-bellied woodpeckers have apparently produced young; two birds that look just like red-bellied woodpeckers but without the red nape are periodically poking uncertainly at the bird feeder. Neat. I feel like taking baby pictures.

P.P.S. Am learning new mandolin technique: cross picking. Like fingerpicking on guitar but done entirely with flat pick, and interspersed with runs, double stops and bits of melody. Fun, but I need to get faster. Hoping to have a couple of pieces ready for Libertycon.

Oh, good! I'm glad to hear that you're still alive and ticking nicely, Cat.

I'll admit was a bit worried.

Naw, I won't talk about protein crystal tickling. But we are getting lots of birds at the feeder here, too -- though most are common house sparrows.
