Difficult day
Oct. 5th, 2014 09:39 amI had a difficult day yesterday. My phone had stopped making its key-click noises, which was making typing things in harder, so I called Apple to find out what was wrong. I expected this to be a simple fix. I spent six hours in various chat sessions and phone calls, trying various things in settings, backing up the phone to iTunes, downloading a fresh copy of the OS from Apple, wiping the phone (twice--first the settings, then all the data), reinstalling the OS--nothing fixed it. The fourth support person consulted someone senior and asked me to check the switch that turns off the ringer.
It turns out that turning off the ringer also turns off the keyclicks. And none of the easily available info about the keyclicks mentions that. When I found out I'd wasted six hours and lobotomized Pyewacket for NOTHING I started to cry.
But at least the backup to iTunes worked as advertised and restored Pyewacket properly.
I would feel bad about not thinking to check the ringer switch except that I did fully as well as four out of five trained Apple support people on this. They had to go all the way up to a senior support person to figure this out.
