So here I am, posting from Capricon. Now I'm sure you're thinking "who is this and how did he get Cat's password?" because what would I be doing wasting prime Con time on the internet?

But they have the a bunch of the filk concerts in the Internet Cafe. So I'm sitting here eating chocolate, listening to Bill Roper's concert, and surfing the net at the same time. Now, how cool is that?

As a matter of fact, if I have any brain at all, I'll remember to put my photos from the con on flickr before I go; the bandwidth here is way better than anything I'm used to. :-)

Chief cool thing so far (out of many cool things)--I got a chance to do Ista's Answer (song about Paladin of Souls, by Lois McMaster Bujold) for Lois McMaster Bujold, in a panel about "How the medium limits the message" when somebody brought up translating works from one medium to another.

She liked it :-)

In fact, she gave me an advance reader copy of her newest book. Watch this site for comments :->

An advance readers copy of her latest book????? How cool is that. I'd love to hear the song, I'll try and remember if I see you at FKO. I love the Chalion books and recently enjoyed the Sharing Knife.

Woot and woot! So, what, they cleared space in the Cafe and set up a stage?

No broadband in your part of the world? Or just not worth it? I know I've gotten way too addicted to it myself...

Lois really, really appreciates when filkers write songs on her stories. She told me that I was the first back in 1988 when I took a suggestion from Lisa Freitag and wrote "Postlude of Honor," based on the "Postlude" story at the end of "Shards of Honor" and the "1776" song, "Momma, Look Sharp."

Well, I DID plan to write a song based on "Paladin of Souls," but misplaced the book shortly after finishing it (!) so it's no wonder you got there first. I wanna hear yours! (Only partly so that when the book turns up, I'll write a different song); mostly because I think your songs are really cool, and I've been meaning to ask you for the words & chords to "The Words of God."

The Cafe was pretty big (and had relatively few tables or con-supplied computers in it), and the stage at the end didn't seem overly intrusive, to me.

Of course, all programming took place in rooms of at minimum what I think of as 'small ballroom' size, since the hotel in question has, since last year, rehabbed their 'little meeting room' sized function space out of existence.

It's about time someone wrote about Ista. There have been discussions on the subject on the Bujold list.
