Apparently Alberto "Torture Memo" Gonzales is having trouble finding a job.

For those who haven't been watching the game, the sections "War On Terror,"  "Dismissal of Attorneys," "Right to Writ of Habeas Corpus In the US Constitution"  and "NSA Domestic Eavesdropping Program" in the first link above may help get you started.

You know, if you (in a generic sense, but still) ever had any doubts that Karma Happens, I think this is at least empirical evidence. Of course, the mechanism of how it works is still a wide-open question, but....

And it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy... (careful, the sarcasm's gettin' deep in here... :)

Gonzo was born in 1955. Soldiers older than that are being deployed to Iraq. I figure that means they'd accept him if he enlisted.

Since IIRC the maximum age for enlistment is 40, he is too old. There are exceptions though, for hard to fill specialties, like doctors, chaplains, and lawyers. Since military has trouble getting lawyers, he could get a direct appointment as a JAG officer assuming he meets the minimum medical and legal requirements. It might make for some truly fascinating discussions in his OBC class...

OMG I *so* don't want him! Not that it would be up to me, but...

But I've got to know; what's OBC?

This is the first faint sip of justice. I am savoring it, in case it is all we ever get. But I certainly hope their cup will run over.

Um. Isn't there a requirement that would-be soldiers be of good moral character? Would they really take a...person...like Gonzales?

At the very least, he'd probably need some sort of waiver.

It may be all *we* get to see. You know how cagey those jive turkeys can be. But it does give me hope that the Universe is still working as expected.

Well... there's John Yoo, who actually *wrote* the torture memo. There's General Geoffrey Miller who initiated the "Gitmo-ization" of Abu Ghraib that led to the atrocities there. There's Rumsfeld, Bush, Wolfowitz and Perle. There's *plenty* of appropriate people.

But Gonzales is certainly an appropriate person.
