Okay.  Big sigh of relief.  Health Insurance Reform has passed the House.  We're not keeping people from dying in the street for lack of insulin, but at least we're making a start.

I know some of the people reading this are not pleased about this development.  I know you won't believe it for a while, but it will be okay.

Unfortunately, unless we can keep Fox News from defining the bill, it's going to lead to a Republican landslide in November. Unless it's really bad, they'll have a very hard time actually repealing the bill, and the more they poke at it the more precedent they'll set for some hypothetical future when Congress is saner. In the long run it should be good for health care. But I fear it will be a dark time for everything else, because it seems like the Republican party is wrong on every issue they take a position on.

[Whoops! This was meant to be a reply to Tigertoy's remarks about the next election.]

I don't think so, actually. Those arguments are likely to be most effective in states that are already solidly Republican. The real screams are going to come in 2014, when the mandate kicks in, and people discover that the cost controls of the bill are weak.

Now, jobs and the economy, those the Dems have to worry about this year.

yay. I'll capitalize the yay and give it excalmation points if this thing actually comes anywhere close to what it needs to be in practice.

But for now, does this mean we get to read more canoe-making posts?

:-) If you like canoe-making posts, sure :-)

I was afraid people would be bored with them.

I can name you at least two model builders on your friends lists who read your canoe-making posts with rapt fascination.
