I took the clamps off this morning, re-fitted both decks and then started thinking about how I was going to glue them in.  Which led to me deciding I needed to level the gunwales with each other (inwale to outwale) and the hull before I actually made with the glue.  So I have spent much of the afternoon sanding the gunwales and using my rasp (which is rather small, and combined with a file, so it has no handle pe se) on them.

I don't think I'm going to get to gluing in the decks today :-(

I am thinking about going canoeing with Patience for an hour or two, though.  Because I'm pretty much out of driveway putty and I just don't feel like crawling around under the house.  Perhaps I will have more ambition after my snack.

Good idea. You've been spending all this time with the new canoe and you don't want her to get jealous.

True.

For what it's worth, Constance will probably be my "loaner" canoe, since she will probably be less tippy than Patience. And you don't give your guest the tippy canoe. At least, not if you'd like her to come back.
