It has been a busy few days. Yesterday we gamed with Bentley again, but this time we drove out to his house. It took us about an hour, with lots of changes of road, over little roads and highways winding through the east Tennessee woods. It was a pretty drive, but it's hard work, peering around for road signs and trying to keep track of which of them you can spot on the map. I got an atlas of Tennessee for my birthday, though, so at least we have a map that shows most of the little roads.

I've been seeing many more birds at the feeder--chickadees and tufted titmice and something that looks like a chickadee but bigger with a smaller black cap and a longer beak. I wonder if it's a nuthatch, but I can't find the bird book right now. And after it rained the other day a bunch of robins and ...starlings I think, were drinking from a puddle on the patio and a cedar waxwing flew up to join them. It was the first time I'd ever seen one--they really do have waxy blobs on their tailfeathers and wingfeathers. I wonder how they grow them and why they don't interfere with flying.
