It is very cool to have a guest room.  And I have guests.  Theist guests.  My in-laws, who are genuinely nice people who want to love me for my husband's sake, and whom I want to love for my husband's sake, and who are so theist they are Creationists.

Obviously I don't want to start any fights.  It's Christmas for goodness sake.  There have been no problems so far avoiding topics that might be controversial, and I expect that happy state to continue.  I'm hoping my guests will have a pleasant few days seeing such sights as there are locally, enjoying roast chicken and chicken soup, perhaps singing a few holiday songs.  We don't all sing very well, but I'm sure we can make a joyful noise if we try.

I am enjoying Kip's and my first Christmas tree together, and my mother in law helped me make tassels to decorate it  Yarn ornaments are traditonal in my family because babies can't hurt themselves if they eat them.  I have no babies, but Christmas trees had pompom ornaments exclusively until I was about 12, so that's my image of a "real" Christmas tree and finally I can have one (the tassels are my addition, but they look cool with the pompoms.)  My mother in law is going to help me make Blueberry Delight--Kip's favorite dessert.  I anticipate having a good, if careful time.

One thing that would absolutely not be useful now is for me to get all upset over the theist-atheist divide.  So, in self-defense, I will be avoiding stuff seems to me to have a statistical possibility of containing hurtful misinformation about what atheists are like.

I'll read it later.  And comment on it here at that time.  Anyone else who might find such stuff and wish to comment on it is welcome to do it here.

BUT AT THAT TIME, PLEASE.  Not now.  We're having Christmas now.  And if it's Christmas In The Trenches, it's still Christmas.

Hope the guest time goes well. I like the Dar Williams song, and the a cappella group I was in had an arrangement of it, though we never did perform it while I was in the group, alas.

I am delighted to hear that you are having a good visit and it is in the spirit of mutual love and family warmth. We don't all have to believe the same things and having people be willing to leave it at that is a blessing so... blessed be

Our tree has Douglas' grandmothers blown/opened and painstakingly decorated chicken and duck eggs and hand made decorations. My purple glass balls and miles of pink and purple bead strings are carefully put away for another year :)

We all need to compromise to get along sometimes. It's nice to be able to do that about the little things and just let the big things be sometimes.

We wish you all the best and wish we were all closer to those we love all the time (but not too close).
