Well, I showed up at the lab at 8:15am, ready to go. Which was a good thing, because Chris did want me to start today. I'm not sure yet what my schedule will be; I'm pushing for 3 10s, Chris is hoping for 3 8s and a 6. However he wanted me to help with a protein prep today and I didn't go home till 8:45pm. Even not counting an hour or so for lunch that's still 11 1/2 hours!

It was a good first day, though. I feel like I did actually get something done :-). And I got a bunch of references to get and read, in order to find out more about what we're working on. And Chris and To (pronounced ":toe"--it's short for a longer Japanese name I can't remember now) and I got together to talk about things to try for crystallizing the protein Chris wants me to work on, and I had a good (? time will tell...) idea, based on my experience in another lab that neither of them had considered. I'm an idea woman--I live for moments like that :-)

But it was a *long* time to be back at work, and I spent most of it on my feet. I'm tired and my back hurts, and I'm not even sure I can bring myself to do my back exercises. I came dragging home, aching and sorry for myself and sniffling, and Kip made me dinner and pampered me. He says he wants me to have postive associations with working again :-)

But I only practiced a very little this evening, and only because I'm really *serious* about the mandolin. And it didn't go very well at that. Sniffle.

But hermit crabs like cooked carrots.

*hugs*
I know how first days feel, and 11 hours are long.
But it sounds very good indeed!

Thanks :-) At least I got something accomplished.

Glad to hear you are working again, and I hope your back's objections are not serious. At least an 11.5 hour first day gives you some ammunition for the 10 hour days. Good luck and I hope the idea pans out.

I hope my back's objections are not serious too. I haven't tried lab work since I hurt my back and I hadn't realized how emphatically non-ergonomic lab setups can be. Especially the microscope.

Dunno yet if the three 10s idea is going to work out. We'll see.
