And on the same day the Washington Post carried a sobering article on Catholic hospitals getting in trouble the Catholic hierarchy over reproductive care. Including a case where a hospital was booted out of the church after performing an abortion to save the life of a 27-year old mother.

Yep.

And the head nurse who approved it was excommunicated, if I recall.

Apparently the theologically correct thing to do would have been to let mother and fetus die together.

Yum.
