I've seen this posted in a couple of my friends journals and I wanted to add it here, in case some folks who read my journal haven't seen it yet.

There's a poll about whether people favor or oppose gay marriage at http://www.afa.net/petitions/marriagepoll.asp. Since it's on a "Christian Family Values" sort of site, I suspect it isn't attracting a true cross-section of the public. I encourage you to go and vote if you haven't already. Just doing my part for public awareness. :-)

The first day on the job was pretty productive, but on the second day I accomplished almost nothing except I smashed two protein crystals while trying to mount them for X-ray analysis. Protein crystals are small (like a millimeter or smaller) and fragile, and this particular protein makes crystals that are particularly fragile, and I don't have much practice with them. Sigh. And since we couldn't run the X-ray machine because we didn't have the helium we needed, Chris opted to send me home early--so I still have another 13 1/2 hours to put in before this week's work is done. (I'm on 3/4 time--30 hours a week) He called me later to tell me the helium won't be in till Thursday. So I have today off, in a sort of unscheduled, unexpected way. This isn't necessarily a bad thing--my back is hurting more and I could use a day when I don't have to crouch over a microscope or stand for a long time on a concrete floor. But it makes me wonder if my schedule is always going to be this jerked-around. I was hoping for consistent three or even four day weekends.

Oh, well. I could really use the money. And having today off means I can do our Christmas cards and send them out. And I slept till nine this morning, which makes me feel better. And I talked to Chris about getting time off to travel to GaFilk and he seemed to have no problem with it :-) Which makes me think my schedule my have some flexibility in it at my end too, which is a good thing.

Well, I've got a lot to do today. :-)

Sounds like you may want to buy some really good "standing" shoes, if this job works out ;-)

And good luck with it!

Well, I have some really good walking shoes that might help. I wore them yesterday.

Thanks!
