First Milemarker on Canoe--Form done
Mar. 20th, 2011 04:29 pmOr arguably the second, if we count designing and drawing up the plans as the first.
Today I finished carving the ends to sharp ridges, I finished gluing clamping ridges to the crosswise stations, I re-aligned the truing string and checked all the stations to make sure they were properly positioned on the strongback and all aligned to the same vertical.
My canoe form; let me show you it:

After taking this photo I put duct tape on the bow and stern stem stations, but not anywhere else. Unlike previous builds where I used staples or fishing line to hold the planks in place while the carpenters glue dried, this time I will be using hot glue, and that means the strips have to touch the actual plywood of the molds. Which means I will need to be a bit sparing of the carpenters glue if I don't want the plywood to become a permanent part of the hull (which believe me, I don't.)
And tomorrow I start planking.
Plus I now need to go practice...

Date: 2011-03-21 07:58 pm (UTC)BTW, what happened with the ankle? If you are back doing canoe stuff I guess the ankle isn't as bad as it was, but I only just read about it so to me it's only a minute ago...

Date: 2011-03-22 03:11 am (UTC)Sunday I wrapped it in an ace bandage and scootched my sock and boot on very carefully and limped gently around the shop finishing the forms. I skipped my daily walk.
Today I skipped my daily walk, decided to try going without the ace bandage, limped gently around the shop and gradually forgot to limp. My foot feels a little more tired than usual but I don't usually get so excited that I work in the shop until 9:30 at night either.
Tomorrow I may try going for my walk again. No jogging for a while, though.
