I enjoyed her books very much.  I was saddened to discover this morning that she has died.

I didn't realize she wrote Dogsbody (the star Sirius comes to earth in the body of a dog)--that was one of the earliest fantasy books I read but I didn't pay attention to authors then.  I knew her mostly for the Chrestomanci books and for Howl's Moving Castle, which came along after I internalized the fact that the names on the covers sometimes predicted the quality of story inside.  Apparently, she was also an atheist, which I only discovered today.

My sympathy to her friends and family.

Oh dear! [livejournal.com profile] dunkelpig & I are also great DWJ fans, especially of the Chrestomanci series. And in fact I picked up a copy of Dogsbody about a year ago and enjoyed it.
