First Canoeing Day Of The Season

catsittingstillI have been doing the taxes, a few hours each day, and today I finished up, re-checked the numbers, and mailed everything off (and a fat packet it was too.)
Then, to celebrate, I put Constance on the car, and went off to the launch point. It was a beautiful day--a bit cooler than last week when it was up in the 80s, which as far as I'm concerned was all to the good. I put the canoe in around 4:30 and canoed for a couple of hours. I startled three or four great blue herons into flight, scared a couple of really big fish (nearly two feet long) talked to a couple of people about my boat. One of them was sounding like he really wanted to build one of his own.
The lake was mostly like glass, and the underbrush hasn't really grown in yet so I could see far enough into the woods to see dogwoods and cherry trees either seeded from yards or left over from old homesteads. A surprising number of the houses at the lake side have blossoming trees in their back yards. It was beautiful.
Then I paddled back and came home. My shoulders will probably hate me tomorrow but I feel pretty good tonight. I didn't do any work on Moxie, but I think I can get caught up in the next couple of days.
