Apr. 11th, 2004 10:53 pmToday I recognized the song of the Eastern Meadowlark while I was taking my walk. I'm adding it to my list of birds recognized by their songs or calls:
Blue Jay
Cardinal (though I still have trouble telling it from the Tufted Titmouse)
Red-winged Blackbird
Robin
Belted Kingfisher
Eastern Meadowlark
I thought I'd be quicker about learning the songs on the Birding by Ear CD, but I keep finding myself hearing songs and thinking--"I know that; I've heard that--but which one was it?"
Missed a lot of work last week, 2 days sick and 2 doctor's appointments (unrelated). The back specialist thinks I may just have arthritis rather than a herniated disc. Arthritis is more permanent, but on the other hand I wouldn't have to worry that I was going to cripple myself with an incautious move. I need to get him the X-rays that Dr Belt-and-suspenders :-) ordered back in January. And make an appointment for physical therapy. And there was something else I had to do tomorrow morning... I wonder what it was?
