Our house (which still feels new although we've lived here about two and a half years now) includes a "rumpus room" and since neither Kip nor I are particularly prone to rumpus, it ends up holding stuff we haven't found another place for but plan to find another place for. It also holds my musical instruments and stuff. And once I got serious about filking again, it kind of grew a music nook.

Anyway, when I'm recording or going to a con, much of the music nook is packed up and travels with me.  But not the screen (which we originally got to screen off the rumpus room to make it sort of a second guest bedroom when we had Keely and Kip's parents all with us for Christmas.)  It turns out the holes in the screen will hold a length of 2x2 which makes a great place for the Zoom H4n to perch for recording.  I can run the power cord to an outlet which means I don't have to leave batteries in it.  My old Zoom died of a burst battery, so now I only put batteries in it when I have to unplug it and take it somewhere.  I'd leave them out even then except it's a pain to have to reset the date and time all the time.

With all the recording I am still learning new things about the Zoom.  For instance I can set the recording mode to "over write" so all the false starts and places where I screwed up on the first verse and stuff don't make a million little files to slog through, but then if I get a take I like, but I want to try again and see if I can do even better, all I have to do is disconnect the take from the track (by setting the file attached to the track to "none") to save it.

I love that music nook! And especially your use of the screen to hold the 2x2 to hold the Zoom -- you engineer *g*.
