While practicing this morning it occurred to me I could come up with a countermelody arrangement for Atheist's Anthem. So, when I was done practicing, I went back and did that. Then I went and entered song and countermelody in PrintMusic. It will probably need some tweaking, but I feel reasonably pleased about this.
I also, while practicing, finally fired up the Zoom H4n and verified that yes, I can play the octave mando and sing for MayDaye and then come back in a second pass and lay the mandolin jig part into the middle, and yes, it does sound pretty sharp. (It's not recorded "for real" yet--this is just proof-of-concept conducted in the music nook.) Actually, it sounds really sharp and I wonder if I should add something more to it. Maybe a mandolin or vocal countermelody for the vocals? Or does madness lie down that road?
So I'm reasonably pleased about these things, but what I haven't done was the hour of mixing I meant to do today. I'm trying to decide if it balances out.
