I have the day off. Bwahahahaha! Of course, I worked 12 hours yesterday, finishing about midnight, so I deserve it. The process that was making protein crystals before isn't working now, and we don't know why, but I'm seeing more precipitation in the final concentration step (and this time I lost about 80 % of the protein during concentration) and maybe that has something to do with it. More salt; I think I need more salt.

In the meantime I'm wondering why I haven't been writing much music lately. I think I've written maybe 6 songs in the whole year. Perhaps part of it is not having anyone to perform them for--I've always been more productive when I know there's a small group of good friends who are regularly availble and interested in the latest stuff. While there are plenty of people like that in fandom, I don't know any in my area. Sigh.

Well, gotta get going. It's nice to have a day to sleep in a bit and relax and go to the used bookstore :-).

We never did follow up on that me visiting you or you visiting me thing did we.

My email is mary at magnusretail dot com. I think we should remedy that and get together soon.

Oh, and by the way, I'm going to be playing at Pablo's on Market next Thursday, and "I meant to do that" is on the playlist. I already performed it at Petal Pushers. (It was too hot to be at a plant nursery that day, so other than a general "That's pretty." I didn't get much commentary on anything for that gig.)

Hey Mary!

Yes, we ought to get together sometime! My e-mail is malfunctioning right now--I'm pretty sure I can send but I haven't received anything this morning which is downright unusual. But I'll respond when things get back to normal. If I forget, nudge me, okay?

So where's Pablo's on Market? Like, what city are we talking about?

Yours--Cat

Gee, I hope I haven't stolen your muse, Cat.

I've been writing a lot of short poetry in the last month.

And, yes, it does help to have an audience.

Well, my muse tapped me with her song wand the day after I wrote that post, so I'm feeling a little better :-). Elysdir's idea is a good one--maybe I'll have some sort of songcircle set of posts to trot out new songs.

But it's great that you're writing lots of poetry! I've been pretty sporadic about livejournal lately so I've only caught a few of them, unfortunately, but I'm glad to hear you're so creatively active.

Yours--Cat

Oh, I've indexed my creative (mostly poetry) stuff for direct reference. Feel free to peruse, of course.

Did you ever figure out a way to record to your computer without annoying microphone noise?

'Cause that wouldn't exactly be the same as a live audience, but it would at least give you a virtual/distributed audience.

I, for one, would valiantly volunteer to participate in such a project, making the noble sacrifice of listening to good music, as an entirely selfless aid to the cause of getting you to write more songs. I suspect there are other brave souls among your readers here who would do the same, despite the great personal cost.

It's a good idea. I haven't figured out how to record directly to computer but recording directly to mp3 on my mp3 player is nearly as good. The only thing is that I may end up driving myself crazy trying to get things "recording-perfect" rather than good enough for live performance. But it's certainly a thought.

I appreciate your willingness to sacrifice yourself for the good of the whole, or at least for the good of me :-)

Sympathies. I think you may have a shortage of grist for the mill. You are living a very isolated life, so far as I can tell. You're also doing a job you're not especially fond of and that may be contributing.
