I went to GaFilk last weekend. Wow, what a con!
It's only about 5 hours drive to Atlanta from where I live, so I drove down during the day Friday. The freeways in Atlanta are... intimidating. Seven lanes wide, I kid you not. Driving there is a delicate balance between staying far enough to the left that you can't get swept away by an unexpected exit-only lane (except they come in pairs or sometimes threes) and far enough to the right that you can get off at your exit. Since I had plenty of time (and directions from MapQuest--how did I get along before the internet?) I took it slow and easy.
My weekend pretty much went without a hitch. It was great seeing everybody! I actually spent quite a bit of open circle time roaming the halls talking with people instead of at the filk circles. It was great to have a chance to catch up. Tnatj gave me a button with my livejournal handle on it, which is what reminded me that I should get back to posting--so if you're happy to hear from me again, tell him so :-). I can't write much right now--the high points that pop to mind are andpuff's reading, getting to hang out with ladyat and bedlamhouse, Steve Savitsky's concert, Kathleen Sloan's concert, the GaFilk house band and the dancing after the banquet, picking up something like five new books and a CD in the dealer's room, the friday night circle, the saturday night circle, seeing Rob and Larissa (whose lj handles have momentarily slipped my mind), and nvrikis (and learning about the dutchy of filk haven) and everyone.
I hope I'll have time to post more later--as it is, I've really got to run, before the boss comes in and looks over my shoulder. :-)

Date: 2005-01-24 01:16 am (UTC)So far nothing has shown up in my mailbox. What address will the mailing list come from? That way I can sort through the stuff my e-mail program thought was junk and verify that it's not getting trashed by mistake.

P.S. I'll let you know if I start getting things twice :-)

Yes, and don't be a stranger! I'll even forgive you for trouncing Team A in "My Filk" single-handedly.

Date: 2005-01-18 12:22 pm (UTC)As for trouncing Team A--I will point out that 1) I was only one person on the team. You may remember me better because I'm prettier than Filkferret or Gerry (sorry guys) but they contributed significantly to the answer phase and also wrote part of the song, and 2) the songwriting (which I admit I made a significant contribution to) we only pullled ahead by 5 points. So I think your comment is exaggerated.

Date: 2005-01-13 02:23 am (UTC)http://www.cincinnaticontradance.org/
I just got the flyer for their dance weekend "Pigtown Fling" which is April 15th-17th. The full weekend is $42.00 prereg, and $47.00 at the door and the dance is in Covington, KY this year (about 15 minutes from our house).
If you're interested in attending let me know and I'll send you a copy of the flyer and registration information (covers workshops, dances, etc.)
I will probably attend the Saturday night dance :-)
