Sent the paper off to Nature. Finally. FINALLY. ("and there was much rejoicing." Feeble cheering in the background.)

A paper in Nature? Ooooh.

What he said.

Oh, and please let us know when it's published so we can all get copies of the magazine to brandish at you the next con :-)

Yes, please. Can you divulge the general topic?

Sorry it took me longer to answer this one--I somehow overlooked it in the first rash of answers.

The general topic is that it's the three dimensional structure of a protein. I'm not sure the boss would want me to get more specific than that before it's accepted. But I'll be happy to tell you all about it once it's got a place in a journal :-)

How...scientific!

I'm duly impressed. Nature is a whole lot classier than Journal of the Amerian Vacuum Society B.

Ah, but will they accept it? Classy is nice but published is golden :-)

Well, anybody can send a paper to Nature. Getting it accepted--that's the trick. The boss figures if we haven't heard back in a week or so, they've probably decided it was good enough to send out for review. Then we'll see.

:-) Thanks. It's a great relief just getting it off my desk. Now we have to wait and see if they like it.

Congratulations! Does it still need to be refereed at this point, or was it going back after tweaking from a first round?

This is its first departure. First it needs to pass muster with the editorial team as being worthy to be sent out for review. If it gets over that hurdle it's refereed. If the referees like it, and the editorial staff thinks there's room for it, then it gets published. Tweaking might be requested at any point.

Yay! I hope they leave the minstrel alone, though.

:-) Thanks. It's not belated--this is the first time I've had time to look at comments since I posted Friday.
