I had a lovely birthday, and many thanks for all the good wishes!

My darling husband brought me my presents first thing (except for the one my father and brother sent, which is too heavy to move, and which is awaiting assembly on the back patio--but that one is for both of us anyway). I got a book about knitting vintage socks (now I want more sock yarn) and the two latest Harry Potter DVDs. He drew me a hot bath to soak in, and brought me an omelet for breakfast, followed by a slice of birthday ice cream cake. Then he graded papers while I went off to work on the strongback. I spent about 4 hours on it and got it near to being finished, but didn't push it through to completion because I wanted to go home in time to change for dinner.

We went to the Sitar (an Indian restarant in Knoxville) for dinner, then came home, happily replete, and had another piece of birthday cake.

And today I went back and worked on the strongback some more and got it *finished*, except for the straight line down the middle because the only string I have at the barn is covered with blue chalk and makes lines on its own--several at a time, sometimes. But I'll bring a roll of pearl cotton the next time I go and get that straight line done in a jiffy.

Tomorrow I go shopping in Knoxville for Christmas presents (neatly sidestepping the Christmas insanity of the weekends, I hope) and will get a 3/32nds inch drill bit (to replace the one I broke) and a hollow ground jigsaw blade for cutting out the stations, which will be the next step.

Several Echo's Children songs were sung (led by [livejournal.com profile] jerusha) at the house-sing here on your birthday, including "Wings," "She Is Gone," and "I Meant to Do That!"

Happy 364 days of unbirthdays for you!

Douglas and I wish you a year full of happiness and good memories. Enjoy your time to create something as durable as a canoe and be kind to yourself.

Happy Birthday! Glad to hear that the canoe progresses well. I've also been playing with tools lately - this weekend I installed a vise on my work-table. Then I used it for some soldering. Whee!
