So there's this theory I can put pictures up. I'm gonna try. People have been asking for pictures of Patience; this is the best one I have so far, taken yesterday.

(Edit--alas I can't get the img tag to work. I don't know why. However, you can find the image at:
(Further edit: Thanks to helpful comments from friends, I think I may have it working now!)

Date: 2006-07-10 12:17 pm (UTC)I'm pretty much free these days--just let me know when you're available to go canoeing. You can borrow one of my (other) canoes if you want--but I only have one set of pads and ropes right now. I'm hoping to get my hands on a rack soon, and at that point I expect to be able to 1) haul more than one solo canoe 2) loan pads and ropes to carry a canoe on a second car.

Date: 2006-07-10 03:23 am (UTC)Shame if something should happen to it.I mean, very pretty. So that lovely wood grain is showing through a layer of fiberglass?no subject
Date: 2006-07-10 12:13 pm (UTC)Goodness yes. The collateral damage would be considerable. How fortunate that nothing...unfortunate...is going to happen. To anyone.
Yep, there's a layer of fiberglass inside and out; two layers at the stems and the bottom.

Date: 2006-07-10 11:21 am (UTC)If you and Patience are in a traveling mood sometime, there is a canoe-able birdwatching trail marked in one of the wildlife refuges over by Brinkley. I forget the exact name of the refuge but the trail-markers feature the silhouette of an Ivory-Billed Woodpecker.

Date: 2006-07-10 12:10 pm (UTC)This wouldn't be the refuge where the ivory-bill was supposedly spotted a few months ago, would it?

Date: 2006-07-10 10:27 pm (UTC)Brinkley is around 70 miles east of Little Rock.
They've even got a motel there (a former Super8) called the Ivory Bill Inn.

Love the canoe - it looks great.
Er ... and the safety stuff is where ??? (consider yourself "Mom'd")

Date: 2006-09-23 03:42 pm (UTC)I'm glad you like the canoe. I'm very happy with how it turned out.
Err... Safety stuff? You mean besides the life jacket I am wearing in the picture, the two spare paddles whose handles can be seen in the picture, and the front painter that doubles as a throw rope which is partly visible in the picture? There's also a back painter (which I don't think is visible in the picture), but it's only 10 feet long; nowadays on flat water I usually tie it to me, so that if I go overboard Patience won't leave without me. I don't think I'd adopted that trick at the time the picture was taken.
Am I missing some safety stuff?
