So, my new livingroom carpet CD--anyone interested?

I'm putting together a CD, by the good graces of my little mp3 recorder. The songs aren't dressed up; there's no multitracking capability--whatever I can do in one runthrough I can record. I didn't insist on perfect takes; trucks go by outside the window, etc, so I figured I would just go for "good enough." I don't guarantee the loudness will be consistent from track to track, either.

That said, it's pretty decent, and there are 19 new songs on it. I am proposing to offer them free to, say the first ten people who ask for them here. I will even mail them out for free.

The catch is that I would like you to be my distribution points for further copies of the CD. Meaning I would like you to agree to burn a copy for whoever asks you, for free.

Does that seem fair? Is anyone interested? I can hand out copies at FKO too--but after the first 7 CDs you will need to supply your own CD-R.

In other news I am scrambling to prepare for FKO. I have mapquest directions to various people's houses and to the con Hotel. I have checked the weather forecast for Mississauga. I have packed everything I can pack tonight. I have arranged for the car to go to the shop tomorrow morning. I even called the shop today to remind them what parts they might want to order early so they won't have to wait for them. Now there's little left to do but bite my nails and try to sleep.

Me! I have a burner. I'm even equipped to print on CDs, assuming the printer still works. (Some recent samples lead me to suspect that its usual automatic head-cleaning may not be enough.)

I think it would be fair to insist that the recipient pay shipping or take hand delivery, but I'm certainly willing to be a distribution point.

I'm not quite able to offer you web space -- it's technically feasible but I don't think I have enough storage and bandwidth at my ISP.

I'd also suggest putting the track list, liner notes, etc. on a web page with a URL short enough that it can be written on the CD. (For example, I use www.thestarport.com/coffee for Coffee, Computers, and Song

That's a fascinating distribution method as well as production model. Unfortunately, I'd not be a good, reliable distributor, so I'll just ask for one from one of the existing distributors, and I will be glad to make copies for anyone who asks, too.

Um, in case I was unclear, I don't expect anyone to rush out and push my CD--it's more a case of, if fifty people ask me for copies, I may refer five of them to each of my "distributors." So I don't end up burning out my own CD burner.

Hopefully I will be able to come home from FKO with a copy from someone; I hate putting anyone to the trouble of mailing the thing on top of copying it. I'll try to remember to bring along some blanks.
