(Frantically) Prepping for OVFF

Remember Common Ground, the 2-against-3 song I wrote for the Sharing Knife books? I put up an mp3 a while back of me and the computer performing it. I've been listening and listening to that mp3 and trying to play the 2 beat part (on octave mando) along with it, then trying to sing the 3 beat part and play the 2 beat part with it, and finally trying to sing the 3 beat part against the 2 beat part without the computer guide. Tonight I was finally starting to feel like it might seriously be possible to do this. I think I shot myself in the foot when I put one measure of 3 beats at the end of the chorus in the 2 beat part--once I start playing as well as singing in 3 beats it's really hard to go back to the 2.
I'd really like to be able to perform it in the filk circles at OVFF.
Plus I've got another new song--well, new lyrics, that I wrote to one of Peter Alway's pieces, and I'm trying to work out a mando harmony for that. I've got it about 80% done, and I'm pretty sure I can finish it tomorrow, but that doesn't leave much time to learn it. I'll do it at the filk circles, a capella if necessary, but I'd like to dress it up as it deserves.
So I have four new, or semi new songs I'm planning to bring out in the filk circles, if they work out:
I Think I Have A Problem Now
Common Ground
Paper Tiger
The King's Lute
And if everything works out well, I'll have rough mp3s of all of them after OVFF.
Oh, and there's a new Temeraire book out (Empire of Ivory). I haven't written a song about it (though I have an idea). But my song about Volly? It looks like I was right (minor gloat).
The mimmoths are very excited about OVFF. Ozymandias says it's his birthday. And he wants a cake. And presents. (sigh).

Date: 2007-10-25 03:25 am (UTC)Did you know that Roberta Rogow wrote a song about the Temeraire series?? Its on her 2nd CD, Alive and Filking (its a live CD). Hmm.. I really need to post about that CD in the filk LJs... (and I think I might have the songbook with the lyrics in my packed luggage.)
I will have copies of Roberta's CD at OVFF.
