Hurray, hurray! T'is Doggerel Day
When doggerel may frolic
Have at! I say, though poets may
Retire to bed with colic.

What's new, ask you? I'm hardly through
With lusting o'er the Kindle
Though DRM piques such as them
Who think it but a swindle.

I covet books that need no nooks
As quick to search as Google
And weightless! Nice! Alas, the price
Is something less than frugal.

Postpone demise with exercise
Is good advice--not crazy,
But rain and chill does sap my will
And leave me feeling lazy.

And bicycling good health does bring
But other transport's crimping
Soft feet flee trials; a scant three miles
I walked--and came home limping.

So here I call--good days to all
Who land among the living
I hope you had a weekend glad,
And likewise good Thanksgiving.

Three miles is a pretty healthy walk; half that would be sufficient to "count"... OTOH, the bike is definitely easier on most if not all of your various parts...

I end up just layering up with a waterproof (and windproof) layer on top, and it's generally sufficient to keep out even the most dismal of Pacific NorthWetness... this morning was good fleece topped with a cheapie windbreaker and a good hat and gloves, and I was quite warm.

Warm clothes work fine for walking; I'm having trouble coming up with a system for biking in the cold. If I wear enough clothes to be comfy when I'm wheeling the bike out of the carport I'm way overheated halfway up that first hill. If I wear clothes that are comfy while I'm going up the hill, I'm cold and grumpy for the first five minutes. And it's hard to peel clothes off while riding a bike.

I've been trying to alternate walking and riding to toughen up my feet, but it's hard to make a walk into any kind of cardio workout worth noticing when my standard bike ride starts with 1 3/4 miles of hill...

Chuckle. I'm working on a term paper today and discovering whole new uses for the passive voice; it might be improved by some doggerel.
