More on rape in the military.   At least it made the papers this time.

And among civilian contractors.

Military still doesn't care.

Here's hoping these women get justice, someday, somehow.

I'd like to say something uplifting or hopeful but, I can't think of anything. Until those in charge start getting raped, they won't get it. Way easier to just pretend it's not happening since it's obviously not important :(

It's easier for them to pretend it isn't happening as long as we aren't tugging on their sleeves and asking what they're going to do about it. I'm somewhat encouraged by the fact that the LA Times article is apparently written by a member of the House of Representatives.

Cat, as one who has served on active duty and who had a female friend who served at the same time, I can tell you that there is definitely a double standard when it comes to how women are treated in the military, and I'm guessing that since I left the service in 1984, things have not changed or have worsened. Because this woman would not "put out" for the men, she was thought to be a lesbian. I think there might've been a rape attempt against her, but I do remember how the pressure upon her as a woman was worse than it was upon me as a Jew.

There are certain groups the military still doesn't want to know how to deal with: women are up there on the list.

Oh, and it's the "boys will be boys" attitude when it comes to military women being raped. And in the case of the military males, what I found was that if you couldn't get it on base, you'd go into town and get it there. This was rampant amongst the single student naval aviators (aka student nasal radiators) I had to deal with at NAS Meridian, MS, back in 1980-82.

I've had that impression for a while.

I just want to get the people running the show aware of the problem and working to straighten it out. Right now they're talking about "zero tolerance" but it's apparently empty rhetoric. I want to see them actually *doing* something. Maybe start with the radical move of prosecuting rape as a crime.
