Okay, I don't believe it made the difference because I don't think the Republicans are that childish.

And I totally understand your desire to vent. Really.

But when you're trying to persuade people to do something, it is a bad idea to insult them.

It's right there in How To Win Friends And Influence People--under "Fundamental Techniques In Handling People" : "don't criticize, condemn or complain."

Just sayin'

I'm not convinced it wasn't intentional. The GOP looks awful, and now the Dems have an excuse to craft a better bill. We'll see...

Well, the GOP looks awful to people who accept that the bailout was necessary, which may not be most of their constituents.

I *do* hope that the Dems can craft a better bill. As you say, we'll see..

My impression is that the House Republicans were going to vote against the bailout anyway, and are just ripping Pelosi because they like to rip Democrats. It was a very mild speech--far milder than the hate speech that that faction of the Republicans has been directing at the Democrats for decades. I think the House Republicans are lying about their reasons, just as they lied to their own Party leadership.

The radical-right Republican coalition is apparently breaking up. May it rest in pieces.

[Followup] It appears that some Republicans, including the House Minority Leader, are saying that Pelosi's speech did not change their votes. One of the ways bullies try to silence their opponents is by threatening that any word, any action out of line will be met with terrible consequences. This seems to be more of that.

I am shocked, shocked at the suggestion that Republicans might behave like schoolyard bullies.

Hmm. I hadn't read the full text of her remarks before. You're right, that is mild by any reasonable standard. Certainly mild by the standards of the things Republicans routinely say about Democrats.

If anyone changed his vote over *that*, I guess some people can dish it out, but they just can't take it.

Hasn't that been the right-wingers, though, all this time? They've all these unfair advantages and yet complain when these are questioned.
