Even Clarence Darrow couldn't keep John Scopes from being convicted. There is some small progress in the world.

Well, Scopes wasn't convicted of being wrong, after all--he was convicted of teaching evolution. Which he did do.

Having a law against teaching evolution is crazy, of course, but he did break the crazy law.

The conviction was expected. Scopes was a test case intended to challenge the law's constitutionality.

Unfortunately, the Tennessee Supreme Court found a technicality with the setting of the penalty that derailed the appeal.
