It's kind of klunky, using a Kindle to post. But I figured it out eventually. I don't think I'll be reading LJ on it regularly; the interface is not kind to Kindles. Though I haven't tried the mobile interface yet.
No, it has a dedicated hard keyboard. People have referred to it as a "chicklet keyboard"--it's got tiny little keys you press with your thumbs. From the picture I thought my hands might be small enough to touch type on it, but holding it my hands, there's no way.
There's a picture on the main page of the Amazon website, if you're curious.
I hear there's a new e-Ink screen coming out (someone saw the screen at a tech show) that is both much faster and touch-sensitive, and I could imagine a Kindle II that used this screen and handwriting recognition to eliminate the keyboard and use that space for reading. But that screen won't be available till August, and I have no actual information that a Kindle II is in the works.
(hug) In the unlikely event that we're ever in the same place, I'll let you try it out if you like.
Alas, at the moment, the data cell phone chip they use doesn't work outside the USA. I expect they'll find some way around that eventually, since they can't possibly want to miss out on a market the size of Europe.
